Frequently Asked Questions

Special effects from C02 FX is your one stop shop for all your special effects requirements.

What is CO2?

CO2 is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas that is present in Earth’s atmosphere in small quantities (0.0004% by volume). It is a by-product of the combustion of fossil fuels and biomass. Carbon dioxide is also created by animals and plants during the process of photosynthesis.

How does the special effects gun work?

The CO2 engine works by using high pressure to force compressed carbon dioxide through a tube. This causes the engine to expand rapidly and ejects the compressed gas from the end of the tube creating thrust. The amount of thrust generated depends on how much pressure is applied and how quickly it can be released into an exhaust channel such as through a nozzle or venturi.

Where can I buy CO2?

CO2 can be purchased from a variety of suppliers, including gas suppliers, scientific supply companies, welding supply stores, homebrewing supply stores and online retailers. The specific suppliers available to you will depend on your location and the specific type of CO2 you need (e.g. compressed gas, liquid, etc.). One of the recommended supplier company is BOC Gases & Gears.

How far does the CO2 shoot?

Depending on the environment in which it is utilised, the CO2 emission can change. Environments with high humidity produce the best effects.
